Calm Dog Separation Anxiety – What You Can Do

Dogs with Separation Anxiety

Is It Possible To Calm Dog Separation Anxiety?

I’d say it’s possible, at least to a point, depending on how bad your dog has it.

It may take a lot of patience and time, but there are ways to make it at least a bit better for your dog…and you.

calm-dog-separation-anxiety-what-you-can-do

I know it’s hard to see your best furry friend going through such stress. Plus, it’s no fun dealing with the mess either!

Separation anxiety is a common problem many dog owners face with their dogs. It can range from a mild to severe case.

Dog Anxiety Symptoms

Since some dogs have separation anxiety only to a mild degree and others may have it to an extremely severe degree there’s many different symptoms to look for. But, of course almost all of these occur when the owner leaves home, except for one that I can think of…

I’ll tell you more about that later though…but first,

When your dog is constantly destroying things in your home while you’re gone, I’d consider it a BIG problem! I’ve had the experience of coming home to disaster.

Shoes chewed up, doors and door frames clawed to pieces,

blinds torn off the windows….

all from one little puppy, lol!

Fortunately, our four dogs aren’t that bad anymore. In fact, most of our dogs didn’t go to the extremes of tearing blinds off the windows. The first pup we had many years ago did all that damage all by his lil’ ole self.

Well, it was a lesson well learned from that puppy we named Thor. We learned a lot as we raised him and he eventually grew up to be a very good dog. Since then we’ve had quite a few other puppies and did things a bit differently with them.

We learned how to teach them it’s okay to be alone for awhile… and you can too!

Keep Dog Calm During Fireworks

Keep Dog Calm During Fireworks

What Can You Do To Keep Your Dog Calm During Fireworks This 4th of July?

If you own a dog that has a fear of loud noises such as fireworks and thunderstorms, I’m sure you already know how they act during this time of year.

Panting, drooling, pacing, and trying to hide are just a few of the common behaviors exhibited during the 4th’s celebrations.

Believe me, I know what it’s like to own a dog with the fear of loud noises. Our beloved and much missed dog, Pepper, was always fearful of any sudden, loud noise. Why? Well, we never could figure it out. She was always afraid of thunderstorms and fireworks ever since we had gotten her as a pup.

And….balloons.

Yes, she was terrified of balloons after she accidentally popped one during our daughter’s birthday party many years ago. She’d go hiding every time she seen a balloon after that incident, although this wasn’t until after she was over a year old already.

Well, our sweet Pepper passed away this past April, and thinking of her, I started wondering about all the other dog owners that have the same problem with their dogs during this time of year and may be looking for advice on how they could keep their dog calm during the fireworks.

I know I always felt bad knowing she was so frightened of  the loud booms going on so close to our house. We live within view of a lake and every year our community sets off fireworks over it for the fourth of July celebrations.

She’d shake, pace, and stick to our legs like superglue during thunderstorms and the fourth of July fireworks! Once in awhile though, she’d take refuge in the bathtub, like she was expecting the end of the world was near.

So, what can you do to help your dog get through these frightening times? Is there anything you can do?

Yes, there are a few things I’ve found that help in these situations and thought I’d share them here.

I know there’s tons of different ones out there, so I know what that’s like.
That’s why I thought I’d do my best to help you out in deciding on what regular ear wash would work best for your canine pal.

These are ones I’d use for healthy, not infected ears. These can usually be used weekly or sometimes even more often as a regular part of grooming.

Dog Ear Cleaning Solution

Choosing the Right Dog Ear Cleaning Solution

Not sure what one is the best? You’re not alone!

Trying to pick out the right one for my dogs was one of the problems I’ve had in the past. It was darn near impossible to decide which one would work best for not only my wallet, but for my dog’s delicate little ears.

There’s so many brands and different varieties in ear cleaners for dogs it’s mind boggling. You finally pick something only to find you have to decide what you really need it for

Are you buying it to use in a normal ear cleaning routine or are you buying it to treat a problem such as smelly ears, crud built up in the outer ear, ears appear red and/or itchy ?

If it’s the latter, then your dog most likely has an ear infection of some sort or another and I’d recommend having a vet take a look. Usually your vet will prescribe an antibiotic for this, but sometimes even that doesn’t completely clear it up.

Smelly, itchy ears after using antibiotics to get rid of an ear infection does happen. You may want to go back to the vet again, but you can also try ear solutions that are specifically made for this problem.

How to Cure Dog Ear Infection

Dog Ear Cleaning SolutionThere are products out there that many people say work. After researching through reviews of other dog owners I’ve decided to make a review list of my own to help you decide what would be the best in your pooch’s situation.

No, I’m not going to guarantee these will work without a doubt; every case is different just as every dog is different! I’m not a veterinarian, only a fellow dog owner wanting to help others make the best choice possible for their beloved canine friend.
